Abstract

The article highlights the issues of introducing older preschool children to the art of architecture, which is a necessary direction of work for preschool teachers in preschool educational institutions to implement the content line “Child in the World of Art” of the Basic Component of Preschool Education in Ukraine. The author notes the possibilities of providing children of this age with ideas about the art of architecture within the framework of educators’ various educational programs for the development and training of older preschoolers. From the author’s point of view, partial programs, for example, “The Joy of Creativity”, as well as the application of STREAM education approaches, are more resourceful in implementing this direction.

Within the framework of STREAM education, there are such effective hobby clubs, challenges, STREAM weeks, as well as STREAM projects and thematic days, where the topic is revealed throughout all types of activity during the day, and with the participation of all specialists and provides children with opportunities to explore, experiment with various building and artistic materials, create structures, etc.

The need to form the ability to analyze architectural objects is emphasized, for which it is proposed to consider and discuss with preschoolers the features, details, and structures of Ukrainian buildings and structures, discuss in design/engineering classes the strength of materials, features of the colour scheme, flexibility, stability, and features of connections of parts for construction. An analysis of Ukrainian architecture in older preschoolers raises awareness of their own involvement in Ukrainian art and culture.

In the author’s opinion, it is advisable to consider and discuss with preschoolers the features, details, and structures of Ukrainian buildings and structures; tasks in the technique of papier-mâché, applique, collage; use of game techniques, creation of STREAM-projects. The practical activity of children, which ends with a creative product (building, construction, etc.), in which children show their vision, imagination, and creativity, constructive skills, and the ability to implement an idea in the final result, is significant. Examples of topics of STREAM projects with older preschoolers are given.
