The article defines the leading integral modes that reflect the process of formation and establishment of musical professionalism in the south-eastern region of Ukraine, which centre is the city of Dnipro. The main stages of the development of the leading educational institution of the region are represented from music classes to an institution of higher education – the Dnipropetrovsk Academy of Music. In 2023, it is going to celebrate the 125th anniversary of its foundation. Moreover, the Academy continues to preserve and promote musical classics and national traditions, as well as support and develop youth’s talents.
The author gives the names of artists whose fate is connected with the activities of the educational institution and whose creative and teaching activities have gained recognition in Ukraine and the world. These are the composers such as A. Shtoharenko, I. Shcherbakova, and V. Martyniuk. The most famous performers are I. Patorzhynskyi, M. Sokil, A. Yampolskyi, H. Piatihorskyi, A. Bazhenov, N. Surzhina, S. Kovnir, I. Petrova. The teachers of the Academy are P. Yampolskyi, M. Liberman, S. Hrybanovska, L. Yevsevska, and A. Postavna.
The periodization of the process of formation, development and affirmation of musical professionalism in the region is proposed. Namely, the institutionalization of professional musical education, the formation of foundations and the affirmation of fundamental principles took place during the first almost thirty years – from 1898 to the middle of the 20s of the 20th century and reached the peak of development in 1919-1923. The transitional stage is the second half of the 20s-30s of the 20th century concentrated on the synthesis of progressive and recessive dynamics. It was determined by the strategy of Soviet reforms aimed at the restructuring of the educational institution. The rebuilding of progressive development was in the 40-70 years of the 20th century. The gradual formation of an integrated system of professional musical education institutions in the region at the Dnipropetrovsk Music School occurred in the last third of the 20th century – the beginning of the 21st century. The modern innovative strategy of the development of the educational institution from 2006 to the present day is based on the principles of polycentric integration, unity of mastery and creative implementation of various models of artistic and practical activity, stimulation of creative self-expression, and intercultural dialogue communication. Therefore, this defines the immanent specificity of the art educational institution, as well as it is a response to the demands of the postmodern society culture.
