Creativity of architects of the Ukrainian diaspora: Manifestation of the rise of the national spirit

The article is devoted to four notable, but little-known architects of the Ukrainian diaspora in Ukraine nowadays: Pylyp Ru, Lubomyr Zhuk, Zenon Mazurkevych and Yurii Novosilskyi. Each of these architects developed their own creative style and made a significant contribution to the growth of the art of architecture.
Compared to other types of art, the architecture of the Ukrainian diaspora is the least studied and to a small extent represented in media space. Nevertheless, even the small number of available sources makes it possible to create and deepen the content of knowledge about such a bright and important phenomenon of our culture.
Based on analysis of scientific and art sources, the outstanding works of each of the mentioned architects are presented and characterized, as well as their features are highlighted. Consequently, it is not by chance that the monuments of sacred architecture are considered, because the churches were centers of not only religious, but also general cultural association of Ukrainians in the diaspora. Moreover, the Ukrainian architects had the best opportunities to express their national spirit in the architecture of churches.
Ukrainian architects worked in the conditions of freedom of creativity, without ideological restrictions and admired modern trends in art. It is valuable that they were able to combine modernity and Ukrainian traditions in sacred buildings organically.
Each of the prominent architects of the diaspora was a unique personality – they have their own aesthetic preferences, their own view of the world and creativity. The life path of each of them developed differently. All of them are united by their love for Ukraine, their desire to serve the Ukrainian people and Ukrainian culture with their creativity.
According to the author, these and other architects of the diaspora should be included in artistic education and aesthetic education of Ukrainian schoolchildren. This was due to the buildings built according to these architects’ projects are endowed with high artistic qualities and have gained recognition in the world. In addition, the main thing – these architects believed in the national idea, combined with a free creative work and a bold experiment. The study of their work is necessary and important in view of the near prospect of the reconstruction of Ukrainian cities and villages because of the Russian invasion. Therefore, the creative experience of the architects of the Ukrainian diaspora will help to solve important issues, in particular, the expression of the national spirit in modern architectural forms using the latest technologies.
