Abstract

The article focuses on the problem of film education and film literacy of modern students in the system of native education. According to the author, it is important for the following purpose: to develop skills in assessing film text from the point of view of ideology, ethics and aesthetics; to aware the place and function of the film in contemporary culture in the context of other types of art and mass media; to elaborate critical thinking skills; to study the grammar of film language, which makes it possible to understand and decode the figurative language of cinema. Cinematography is a popular way of spreading social, moral and cultural messages. Moreover, cinematography develops emotional and cognitive communication. Due to the fact that every film is a media text, students can learn how to think and analyze it critically. The author proposes to choose the analysis and interpretation of the film as the main methods of film education of students.

The author examines the possibilities of analyzing film texts with high school students, which can be used during art and history lessons. The lesson plans for senior students, devoted to the genre of biopic, material, questions and tasks for work with pupils of high school have been presented.

It is concluded that the Ukrainian films, in particular the genre of biopic, analysis and discussion among students with the help of a competent teacher at art and history lessons will allow students to acquire film literacy. Such awareness will contribute to a better understanding of the complex social and political processes, events and conflict situations that take place in Ukraine.

The author believes that an important point is to develop methodological recommendations for parents as intermediaries in acquiring the basics of media literacy among children, making perspective further scientific and methodological explorations. It is important to provide parents with different strategies for communication with children, depending on the children’s age, the content and time of media.
