HISTORY OF THE JOURNAL
The all-Ukrainian scientific and methodological journal Art and Education was founded in 1996. The journal was established as a professional platform for the conceptualisation and development of arts education in Ukraine during the formation of the national educational system.
The founding institutions of the journal were the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, and the Kyiv Children’s Academy of Arts. Since its inception, the journal has developed as a scientific and methodological space aimed at integrating theoretical research and pedagogical practice in the field of arts education.
Throughout its existence, the journal has consistently been included in the official list of peer-reviewed academic journals of Ukraine in the field of pedagogical sciences, authorised to publish the results of dissertation research. The journal systematically advances scholarly discourse related to the theory, history, and methodology of arts education, art pedagogy, and education through the arts.
A significant contribution to the establishment of the journal was made by its first Editor-in-Chief, Liudmyla Mykhailivna Masol, PhD in Pedagogy, who led the journal from 1996 to 2015. Under her leadership, the conceptual foundations of the journal were сформовано, its academic profile was defined, and a balance between scholarly depth and practical orientation of publications was ensured.
In 2015, the journal was headed by Viktoriia Valentynivna Ragozina, PhD in Pedagogy, who served as Editor-in-Chief from 2015 to 2020. Subsequently, Viktoriia Valentynivna Ragozina has continued to play a key role in the journal’s development, providing scientific and editorial guidance, ensuring the continuity of its conceptual framework, and maintaining the consistency of its editorial policy.
In 2015, the journal was re-registered in accordance with the current legislation of Ukraine. The founders of the journal are the Institute of Problems on Education and the Institute of Gifted Child of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine.
Since its foundation, the journal has provided systematic coverage of research findings and pedagogical practices in the field of arts education. Its pages feature publications reflecting both national experience and contemporary international scholarly approaches.
The journal is steadily integrating into the international academic space: its articles are indexed and abstracted in leading Ukrainian libraries and in national and international scientometric databases, including Google Scholar, CrossRef, Index Copernicus International, EBSCO, and ERIH PLUS.
Today, Art and Education is an established peer-reviewed academic journal with a long-standing history, combining scholarly tradition with current trends in education, culture, and the humanities. The journal continues to serve as an open platform for academic communication, contributing to the development of arts education in Ukraine and its integration into the European and global educational space.
