The author gives brief facts of history of the shadow theater (origination in Asia, development in many countries of the world).

There are three types of shadow theater: silhouette shadows (when the shadow casts specially cut figures), live (shadow casts the whole person) and hand shadows (“play” the actor’s fingers). The distinctive feature of all these types of shadow theater is conditionality of visual means.

The features of the on-screen shadow theater and its basic tips for the first graders have been discussed. The organization and staging of a “live” shadow theater with children of 6-7 years were separated. The attention is paid to the scenario and the most difficult stage of the work – the creation of plastic sketches in the “live” shadow theater.

The experimental extracurricular program of the “Magic Shadow Theater” has been proposed for children of 6-7 years of age in the activity of the shadow theater, the development of pupils’ artistic abilities, as well as the perspective planning of the themes and teaching methods.
