The aspect of studying the arrangements of Ukrainian folk songs and vocal modern musical works, which are created by using the motifs of well-known Ukrainian folk songs, at music lessons in institutions of general secondary education is considered in the context of the problem of using motifs of Ukrainian folk songs in instrumental, vocal and vocal-instrumental works by composers of various musical genres and forms.
The author traces the tradition of researching Ukrainian folk songs, their collection, study and publication in the format of collections of arrangements of Ukrainian folk songs by well-known Ukrainian composers (M. Lysenko, M. Leontovych, K. Stetsenko, Ya. Stepovyi, etc.). Moreover, practice of using motifs of Ukrainian folk songs in national and inernational composers’ works of various historical periods (L. V. Beethoven, F. Liszt, F. Chopin, J. Gershwin), which continues in modern Ukrainian music. The author gives examples of musical works by modern composers (M. Skoryk, Ye. Stankovych, R. Yakovchuk, H. Havrylets, L. Dychko, etc.) and performers and bands (Oleh Skrypka and Co., “Huliaihorod”, “Rozhanytsia”, “Dakhabrakha”, “Spyliasti Kobzari”, etc.), who interpret Ukrainian folk songs in a different creative manner and use their motifs in their work.
The spectrum of Ukrainian folk songs for study at “Art” lessons in institutions of general secondary education (primary school and 5th grade), which various authors’ collectives offered in textbooks, is analysed, In addition, conclusions are drawn about their diversity and systematic approach to study – from individual songs to arrangements and study composer’s works with folk song motifs. It is proposed to diversify the musical repertoire for students to learn with regard to modern works of Ukrainian composers. The author presents two vocal author’s works – songs for learning at music lessons in 5th grade and provides methodical recommendations for their perception and processing by students at music lessons. The emphasis is placed on practical and creative forms of processing songs (discussions in the form of conversations and role-playing games, performance-experimental tasks in groups and pairs).
