The article highlights the peculiarities of teaching students of how to make music collectively in the conditions of the educational process of an institution of general secondary education based on the author’s methodology of Jostein Skare EC-PLAY (Norway). Training students in collective music-making based on the author’s methodology of Jostein Skare EC-PLAY aims to spread the methodology of collective music-making of students in institutions of general secondary education in different countries of the world, provided that children do not have special musical training.
The pilot stage of implementing this technique at music lessons in Ukraine – at the primary level of Secondary general school No.77 in Lviv with advanced study of economics and management is considered.
The essence of the collective music-making technique of Jostein Skare is described (without learning notation by students) using musical instruments (ukulele, acoustic guitars, violins, electric piano) and the EC PLAY software, which works in the “karaoke for musical instruments” mode, is described. The stages of work with students and their content are revealed: I stage. Acquaintance with musical instruments (independent visual and tactile “examination” of musical instruments by students and choosing the one they like, learning how to hold it correctly, methods of producing sound). II stage. Learning a melody (marked in the form of an instrumental notation scheme that uses letters or numbers instead of notes or next to them. Musical instruments are marked with special coloured stickers). III stage. Collective music making with elements of improvisation (free improvisation). IV stage. Selection of the repertoire and work on it (thanks to the EC-PLAY software with a video series of coloured stickers, which the students focus on while making music). V stage. Final performance-concert.
This technique does not pretend to be recognized as an alternative to the traditional one, however, it has its own advantages (easiness in mastering the ways of playing, the speed of mastering the performance of melodies on a musical instrument, involving the child in playing in a team, satisfying their needs in getting acquainted with new musical instruments).
The results of implementing this method are described in the format of the created project “Singing Carols at the Composer”.
