The purpose of the article is to introduce the Ukrainian pedagogical community with the peculiarities of teaching art to Chinese students. It is assumed that such information is important in the context of the processes of interpenetration and mutual enrichment of educational systems of different countries. Data on the legislative and regulatory support of Chinese art education are presented. It is emphasized that the general educational aspects of schoolchildren’s education are leading for the Chinese school, first of all, moral and ethical and education of patriotism. It is shown that music education is positioned in Chinese schools as the foundation of person’s spiritual growth. The Chinese scholars’ studies on Chinese art education, including those who graduated in Ukraine, is analyzed. In addition, the results of researches of European, in particular Ukrainian scientists, devoted to education and pedagogy of China are involved. Background into the historical preconditions of teaching different types of art to Chinese schoolchildren is made. The current state of the art education system in China is considered. The characteristic feature of modern educational processes is emphasized as a combination of two opposite and simultaneous tendencies: preservation of national artistic traditions and reliance on them in teaching students and the desire to integrate into world processes, which leads to active involvement of Western European, including Ukrainian artistic and pedagogical experience. It is noted that despite the inherent syncretic worldview and artistic thinking of Chinese culture, Chinese students learn certain artistic disciplines – music, fine arts. Integrative processes affect the mandatory study of the traditional genre of Chinese drama. The main focus is on teaching music students in connection with the greatest development of this educational field in educational documents. Along with this, the tendencies that are developed in teaching fine arts and choreography are considered. The artistic processes in China that influenced education, in particular the work of contemporary composers of «New Wave» are analyzed. The conclusions are drawn on the common trends of Chinese and Ukrainian art education.
