This article provides a comprehensive analysis and theoretical justification of contemporary pedagogical models for Master’s level training within higher arts education institutions in Austria, France, and Italy. The primary objective of the research is to examine the mechanisms for integrating traditional artistic practices (namely drawing, painting, and sculpture) with project-oriented learning. The educational process is scrutinized through the lens of “methodological tension” existing between the classical academic tradition and the rigorous demands of the contemporary art market.
Drawing on the example of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (Austria), the study presents the phenomenon of transdisciplinarity, in which pedagogical practices extend beyond the confines of the classroom into the public sphere. An analysis of Master’s programs at the Paris College of Art (France) demonstrates a rethinking of traditional disciplines, particularly the framing of drawing as a critical studio practice and a potent instrument for social impact. Furthermore, the experience of the Rome University of Fine Arts (Italy) highlights a paradigm shift from technical execution toward intellectual conceptualization and arts management.
The research establishes that the leading trend in European arts education is a transition from the static transmission of knowledge to dynamic artistic design and project-based inquiry. It is determined that the “atelier” (studio) principle is not being discarded but rather transformed into a space for individual mentorship, where the student emerges as an active agent in shaping their own professional trajectory. Key determinants of successful professional training include the engagement of international experts, both individual and collaborative project work, exhibition activities at prestigious venues, orientation toward socially significant initiatives, and the organization of charitable auctions.
The study concludes that the isolation of Ukrainian arts education may be mitigated by implementing artistic projects as a vehicle for actualizing the academic tradition. The proposed approaches facilitate the training of “artist-researchers” who can adeptly navigate conceptual and technological tools within the context of global cultural dialogue.
