The ballet legend “Olga” by Yevhen Stankovych exemplifies the transformation of the traditional legend genre into a contemporary ballet opus, blending Ukrainian folklore with modern musical and choreographic techniques. This synthesis preserves cultural heritage and reinterprets it, making the narrative relevant to contemporary audiences. Stankovych’s portrayal of Princess Olga explores universal themes such as power, wisdom, and feminine strength, presenting these ideas through a modern artistic lens. The innovative approach of ballet to integrating traditional elements into contemporary forms highlights the evolving nature of the ballet genre and the possibilities for reimagining classical themes within modern contexts. This study focuses on analyzing the creative methods employed by Ye. Stankovych, in the ballet “Olga,” emphasizes the importance of maintaining a connection to cultural roots while engaging with modern artistic practices. The work is a powerful example of how traditional narratives can be revitalized and transformed within the framework of contemporary art, offering new interpretations that resonate with today’s audience. Moreover, the ballet underscores the significance of cultural identity in the modern world, demonstrating that classical stories still hold relevance and can be dynamically expressed through modern art forms. It is determined how the artist embodies the Ukrainian ethnic specificity through musical expressiveness. Thoughtful choreographic solutions and forms (in particular, the form of a choreographic monologue) emphasize the content of the legend about Princess Olga. The article emphasizes the importance of the musicological approach for understanding the development of modern Ukrainian music and theatre art.
