The article is devoted to the problem of using Ukrainian folk art in teenage theatre activities to involve children in cultural values, develop their communicative culture, and promote creative self-expression.
The cultural and educational potential of ancient Ukrainian mythology, rites, songs, games, and folk performances, reflecting people’s experiences, views, ideals, and folk aesthetics, is justified. The effectiveness of folk poetic works is carried out with the help of images and symbols that embody essential human virtues – care for the natural environment, devotion to the community and the Homeland, and the desire for good, beauty, and justice.
It is emphasized that the influence of folk poetic works on teenagers increases if it is highlighted through a stage action, through children’s understanding of events and characters using the means of theatrical art.
The importance of children’s participation in teenage theatre for developing their sensory sphere and aesthetic culture, acquiring communication skills, broadening their worldview, and involvement in national cultural creation is revealed.
Attention is focused on the role in the theatrical and educational process of the director of teenage theatre (the need for one to master the technique of creating stage images and the integrity of the performance, promoting the involvement of children in creative cooperation, helping each young actor in self-expression and developing their creativity, etc.).
The purpose and leading aspects of the activity of the youth theatre “Future Horizons” are highlighted, and short texts of the scripts of theatrical performances (developed based on folk poetic works) staged in the theatre are presented.
It is concluded that the dramatization of folklore is an effective way of transferring the historical and cultural heritage of the Ukrainian people to students. Teenagers actively master the system of folk views, values, and ideas of folk aesthetics, and, therefore, they will be able to develop folk cultural heritage, preserve the memory of their past people, and grow spiritually as citizens and patriots.
