The article is devoted to topical issues of perception of foreign art of the 20th-21st century, which are related to the change in the image of a person, his emotionality, and physicality, which are indirectly reflected by art. Several problems that arise due to the radical refusal of certain artists to create expressive works are highlighted, automatically leading to a review of the essence of the aesthetic and functioning of the work of art. In the example of the works of R Smithson, G. Richter, M. Rothko, G. Crumb, D. Rosenquist, and M. Motokovich, the reflections on the process of mirroring the evolution of the emotions of the modern posthuman, which is one of the factors of the emergence of a plurality of artistic ideas and forms of their embodiment, are developed. The attempt of modern art to get closer to natural laws causes a paradoxical reaction of misunderstanding due to the growing uncertainty of values and authorities in contemporary culture. It is emphasized that the aggravation of the problem of perception and understanding of modern art results from a new type of person of the post-classical era and the state of his feelings. Also considered is the complication of artistic expression of contemporary work as a solution to a perceptual problem, which gives a person exceptional satisfaction and a sense of personal growth. It is emphasized that the peculiarities of the artistic structure of modern artistic thinking require a specific diversity of positions regarding any work from a contemporary personality, taking into account its marked individual intention. Proposals for teachers of art disciplines are formulated in the context of an interpretive pedagogical style, which is relevant and productive in the conditions of the mobility of educational standards and the insufficiently significant status of the art cycle in the socio-cultural space.
