The art of making postcards

The article presents a piece of historical information about origin and development a postcard as a means of people communication. Moreover, the stages of a tradition of greetings people have become with the help of greeting cards from the XV century. The author’s classification of postcards is given by different types: according to purpose, content, form, techniques and methods of decorating postcards, illustrated, electronic. Models of greeting cards of various subject and content, in particular from the collections of deltiologist in Bukovyna, have been presented.
The results of the survey of students of the first year of the Vyzhnytsia College of Applied Art named after V.Yu. Shkribliak have been presented. The purpose of the survey was to reveal awareness of art of making postcards at the beginning of the academic year 2017-2018. The results have showed that respondents had the superficial knowledge about history of the postcard origins. However, they had a strong desire to learn more information and acquire practical skills in making postcards in various artistic techniques. According to the students’ needs, the authors give recommendations how to make images, write and organize the text of greeting cards.
