Art is a universal language of every nation

Abstract

The article deals with the problems of modern textbooks. The author reveals  some aspects how to work with the textbook of “Art” (standard level, academic level) by the example of the textbook “Art” for the 10-11^th grades for schoolchildren by Nazarenko N. V., Chyen N. V. & Sevastianova D. A. The Ukrainian art is analyzed by familiarizing the students with the ethnographic regions of Ukraine, where every student can find his/her own small homeland’s corner. The possibility of completing the learning materials with internet resources (listening to the music pieces, watching of the thematic videos), creative tasks variations, mini-disputes is proposed.

The art textbook carries out the essential functions in order to the important tasks of art lessons in high school – development of pupils’ creative abilities, formation of personal traits, views and beliefs of a true Ukrainian, interest in culture and art of own country and other parts of the world, preparation of students for life. According to the peculiarities of the author’s art textbook for students of 10-11^th grades, there is a set of problem questions for each topic, historical references, the section “For Curious”, creative tasks of various levels of complexity, tasks for creative workshops with individual and group forms of work – all these develop the students’ abilities and skills required in the research, activates them to further use the acquired knowledge. The author’s prospect for further research is to study in-depth arts and cultural heritage of Ukraine and its ethnographic regions with senior school students. That’s why it would be useful to increase the hours in the curriculum to study Ukrainian art in high school. Teachers are advised to go with students in ethnographic expeditions in order to deepen and expand their knowledge of the history and culture of their native land.
