Abstract

The article presents main ways of implementing the ideas of the New Ukrainian School in the author’s textbooks for the integrated course “Art” for the 1st and 2nd grades of institutions of general secondary education (Kyiv: Shkoliar, 2018, 2019).

Integration is identified as the main feature of the textbooks – introducing children with the essence and types of arts. Music and fine art are dominant among them.

Various tasks of textbooks, which provide the priority of practical activity for pupils, are characterized. Such new sections as “Art Tips” and “Your Art Holidays” are directed at developing students’ skills of practical work.

The educational component of the content of art education, aimed at involving children into the ideals of beauty, spirituality, formation of high moral qualities, is analyzed. Many tasks are Ukraine-oriented, directed at building culture of communication with art and implementing the educational potential of collective art activity.

Considerable attention is paid to formation of speech competence of primary students. For this purpose, the textbooks are enriched with the section “The Minute-Speaker”, as well as “Vocabularies” to certain units and the general dictionary at the end of the textbook. A number of tasks contribute to development of connected speech.

Requirements to formation of students’ information competence are implemented through the tasks that guide children to work with modern media resources. All musical and some visual works of the textbook have QR codes that give access to appropriate visual aids via smartphones.

The educational and methodological apparatus of the textbook helps to continuously maintain attention and stimulate learners’ cognitive activity, provides the possibility of free choice of given material, creates preconditions for the diversification and optimization of students’ productive independent learning.
