Verbal methods at music lessons and the integrated course “Art”

The article deals with the teaching methods of music defined as a set of pedagogical techniques that direct teacher to solve problems of music education as well as to promote students’ acquiring the content of music education in interrelated activities between teachers and student. There are the following methods: common methods (verbal, visual, practical) and special methods of music education (comparison, destruction, empathy, artistic practice, playing etudes, interpretive study of art works, improvisation, creation of artistic images, compositions).
The author offers main approaches used in verbal teaching methods at music lessons and the integrated course “Art”. The source of verbal teaching methods is verbal or printed word (narration, explanation, conversation, discussion, verbalization of the content of art works, work with the textbook). The general types of work with the textbook at music lesson are the following reading and analysis of the text; finding the main idea, retelling; answers to reproductive and productive questions; doing research tasks; verification and control of knowledge, skills and abilities.
The author offers methods of work with the textbook that make the educational process at more effective (explanation, conversation, verbalization of the content of musical works), certain techniques (“Semantic Map”, “Directed Reading”, “Sinkwain (Sencan)”), as well as the variants of using methods and techniques based on the textbook “Art. 1st-2nd Grades” by A. V. Kalinichenko, L. S. Arystova and “Music. 4th Grade” by L. S. Arystova, V. V. Serhienko. Recommendations will be useful for music teachers and students of musical pedagogical faculties in universities.
