Teaching of 5-6th grades students how to work with soft graphics

The article is devoted to teaching of 5-6th grades students of general secondary education of the graphic techniques. The following soft graphic materials are presented: pastel, sepia, sauce, charcoal, sanguine, chalk, as well as their characteristic (fragility, scattering, velvety texture) and basic methods of working with students in the process of performing compositions (at art lessons) and sketches (independent artistic activity). The author emphasizes that the techniques of drawing with soft graphics make available dry, wet and mixed image methods and describes the techniques of shading, blurring and hatching, that allows students to create different visual effects.
Based on the analysis of current programs and textbooks “Fine Arts” for 5-6th grades students of secondary schools, it is concluded that the authors of the textbooks provide for the implementation of certain tasks with soft graphics. However, it is necessary to increase the number of such tasks and involve them to perform artwork in a mixed technique (combining soft graphic materials with others, such as watercolour).
The pedagogical support of students’ performance of practical tasks at art lessons using pastels, sepia, sauce, charcoal, sangina, chalk is described within the content of current textbooks. The thematic works are proposed that provide for the gradual formation of skills how to work with one graphic material (performing exercises “Butterflies”, “Castle”), with several (task “Fog in the Mountains”) and development of skills working with these materials while performing more complex tasks in combined art technique (imitation of rock painting). The research organized with students on obtaining prints from drawings created by various soft graphic materials which allowed students to make their own conclusions about the properties of these materials and their pictorial effects.
